What Does Bok Even Mean? And Why Are There Three Thousand of Them?
Bok in the local Isaan dialect means holes or rock depressions carved naturally into sandstone by the relentless force of the Mekong River. Sam Phan Bok literally translates to 3,000 Holes but in reality, there are even more. These mysterious formations stretch for kilometers and have earned the nickname The Grand Canyon of Thailand.

Its Like Walking on Mars But Hotter and Full of Instagrammable Holes
The rock surface here looks like something from a sci-fi movie: crater-like, surreal, and out of this world. Some holes resemble spaceship craters, some hearts, and even monkeys. This Martian landscape offers a totally alien experience without ever leaving Southeast Asia.

When the Mekong Dries Up, Nature Shows Off
The best time to visit is during the dry season (March to May) when water levels drop, revealing the full, raw beauty of the landscape. This is when Sam Phan Bok comes alive, exposing its thousands of bizarrely shaped holes. With the right guide, youll even find hidden rock holes not marked on any tourist map perfect for unique content.
